Lee County Career and Technical Center students attended the DECA State Leadership Conference March 4th – March 6th in Virginia Beach.

Talmadge Gunter placed in the top eight for role play in Quick Service and Restaurant Management Series, Jaelyn Hall placed in the top eight for exam for Restaurant and Food Service Management Series, Jacqueline Hurd placed in the top eight for exam for Apparel and Accessories Series, and Morgan Graham placed in the top eight for role play in Selling. Jacqueline Hurd was recognized for serving as DECA District 1 President.

The following students advanced to state and participated in competition, as well as leadership development sessions. Alexis Benfield, Leadership Development; Maya Echeverria, Social Media; Shawn Hampton, Automotive Services Series; Hunter Huff, Leadership Development; Arianna Kennedy, Human Resources Management Series; Elizabeth Laws, Job Interview; Lindsey Nickodam, Principles of Hospitality and Tourism; and Kylee Phillips, Food Marketing Series. In the competition, students completed a 100-question test and role play scenarios.

DECA is a career and technical education student organization whose mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the world. With competition and lessons, students learn to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leaders.

DECA advisor at Lee County Career and Technical Center is business and marketing teacher Cindy Garrett. Mrs. Garrett also serves as the DECA district advisor.

CDL Instructor Jason Spears and Power Lineman instructor Mike Rose visited the Lee County Career and Technical Center demonstrating some power lineman class and CDL course work.

His mission is two-fold: celebrate all of the great work that’s being done for learners around the Commonwealth, and get a firsthand experience with the challenges and needs across Virginia.
